Program Description: The Medical Transcription Certificate is designed to meet transcription needs for medical and dental offices, hospitals and free-standing clinics. Courses such as medical terminology, legal aspects of medical law and ethics, intermediate to advanced levels of anatomy and physiology, medical machine transcription, advanced medical transcription and word processing have been addressed leading to a 160 hour externship to prepare the student for a career in Medical Transcription. |
| To get admitted to this program and register for courses | |
| 1. | You must be admitted to Glen Oaks Community College to be awarded the certificate. Admission application is available online. There is no Application for Admission fee. Notification of admission status is mailed to the student as soon as possible. For questions regarding Admissions - contact Amy Young. |
| 2. | To register for courses - click on the Courses tab above to view the current course catalog. After selecting the courses you wish to take for the semester, click on the Enroll in Classes tab above to begin the enrollment process. |
| 3. | Some courses may be available as an "equivalency" from another college. If a course you are looking for is not available from the program offering college, check the course description for course equivalencies at other institutions. You may find another institution that has a course which will transfer into the program, and is so noted in the course equivalency section of the course description. |

The student must achieve a “C” or 2.0 GPA in all prerequisite and required courses.
Qualification for the externship requires the student to have at least 75% of the major course work completed as determined by the externship coordinator with an overall 2.5 GPA or above.
