Early in 1999, the Michigan Community College Association, with the support of the Michigan Virtual University, submitted a grant proposal to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.  The funding of this proposal represents an exciting opportunity for Michigan community colleges to develop programs of study designed to be available to learners in an "anytime / anyplace" format.

There are several activities funded by the W.K.Kellogg Foundation grant including:

  • Program Development - Information regarding collaborative programs developed in Round 1 (1999-2001) and Round 2 (2000-2002).
  • Professional Development - includes information regarding training provided to faculty and staff at Michigan community colleges.
  • NCA Accreditation - a collaborative effort for North Central Association review of member colleges distance learning programs.
  • National Alliance - a national effort to collect data and explore best practices of statewide virtual systems in the United States.

MCCVLC/Kellogg Year 5 Online Course Development Grants:

During Fall 2003, MCCVLC sought proposals, from member institutions, to develop online courses that are considered preparatory to a majority of online occupational programs. The desired courses, in many cases, are requisites for the traditional AA transfer degree. All courses will be completed by August 31, 2004 and offered on the website for Fall 2004. The proposals were reviewed by four distance education consultants running similar programs throughout the country and 15 proposals were chosen for funding.

If you have specific questions regarding either the grant or the grant activities you may direct them to Ronda Edwards.
