Accreditor for Upstarts

A new movement in the area of accreditation focuses on the review of individual online courses offered by non-college providers of higher education.  Two possible options include quality reviews by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a new upstart accreditor called Modern States.  In effect, both options could provide 'accreditation' services for companies like StraighterLine and MOOC providers such as Coursera and Udemy, and provide more low or no-cost options to higher education for students.  There is also discussion about receiving federal approval that will allow students to utilize federal financial aid for non-college options.
